Kaleidoscope
A cross-border free city and the continent's academic centre. Any formula here may be questioned. Whether the paper questioning it covers next month's rent is a harder discipline.

At a glance
| Nature | Cross-border free city, magitech trade and academic centre |
| Population | ~118,000, rising by over a tenth during term and expositions |
| Landmarks | The Clock Tower, the Prism Market, the seven calibration canals |
| Chapter | Mid-early large city; base for high-tier magic and crafting |
Kaleidoscope sits where several nations’ trade roads meet seven artificial calibration canals. The name comes from the colour bands the water takes on after passing spent magitech crystal — not from any attempt at grandeur.
The Clock Tower is why no nation risks force here. The autonomous council handles tax, policing, housing and public works — Evelina does not run the city day to day.
Arriving
The first sensation is too much information. Signs move. Several languages happen at once. Students argue formulae on street corners. The Tower is the constant vertical reference; the seven coloured canals orient you at ground level.
The city and the Tower are not substitutes for one another. The districts give you trade, relationships and social conflict. Inside the Tower there are exams, puzzles, research and high-tier fights.
The contradiction at its centre
Knowledge is freest here, and most expensive. Anyone may enter. Not everyone has the time or money to stay.
