Lucentrystel Outpost
A fortified town where welcoming beginners is a survival policy rather than a slogan. You get looked after here because in a few years you may be the one on the wall.

- Guild branch
“A lamp stays lit at the north gate until the last party registered out that day has signed back in.”
The rule is not in kingdom law and not in the Guild charter. It is in the minutes of the Lucentrystel town council, and under reason somebody wrote four words: people who come home late.

Why it is so hospitable
Lucentrystel is the last stable settlement between the kingdom and the eastern old road, where shattered spaces are most active. It looks bright, tidy, and better ordered than many interior cities.
The reason is not romantic. On average, once every three years a monster tide comes through that would erase an ordinary village. The town gives newcomers cheap hot soup, three nights of a roof that does not leak, and supervised work, because everyone here understands the arithmetic: the beginner looked after today may be the one standing on the wall in a few years.
What it costs
That safety rests on high taxes, strict registration, a standing garrison and quarterly drills every adult must attend. At first the town simply feels convenient. Live here long enough and you start seeing the night watches, the injuries and the losses behind each free service.
What you end up remembering is not a menu of amenities. It is who left the gate open for you in the rain, and who quietly took the failed commission down off the board.
